What’s special about 2011: According to a new survey, Retail Advertising and Marketing Association, conducted by BIGresearch, consumer spending on super bowl is going to touch $10.1 billion. That’s an unprecedented amount, a record, never seen before. The public mood is up. To celebrate the event people are throwing party or planning to watch it at bar or restaurants. The survey says consumers are gearing up to purchase stuffs like food/beverage, team apparel/accessories, televisions, furniture and decoration items for Super Bowl Sunday.

Unlike last year, consumer sentiment towards the advertisers is positive. In 2010, in the midst of recession consumers opined that advertisers should not spend huge amount in the events like this and pass on the benefit to them.  This year this sentiment is down significantly.

Ad rate:  New York Times reports, the channel has sold all of this year’s available ad slots at a rate of $2.8-$3m per 30 seconds. Interestingly, Fox has reached this locked it even without a final confirmation of which two teams would take on each other. That’s quite a feat.
